Amanda Forney-Freeman earned her associates degree from Lees-Mc Rae Junior College and her bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Tech in 1991. While at Tech, Amanda played an integral part as a hitter on the volleyball team and as a guard on the women’s basketball team.
As a Golden Bear on the basketball floor, Amanda averaged 10 points per game her junior year and 13 points per game in her senior year. In her senior year, Amanda led Tech in steals, assists, and rebounds and also recorded a triple double. Her efforts helped to guide Tech to a program-best, 18-0 record and WVIAC Regular Season Championship.
Amanda also stood out in the classroom, being named to Who’s Who Among American Junior Colleges in 1988 and Who’s Who Among Colleges and Universities in 1990 and 1991. She was also awarded One Valley Bank Scholar Athlete Award and graduated from Tech Cum Laude.
In addition to her professional career as a recreation programmer, Amanda also plays for the Hickory Flames, a semi-pro women’s basketball team in North Carolina. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and a member of Dulatown Presbyterian Church.
Amanda has one daughter, Jada Payne, who is currently attending La Salle University on a full basketball scholarship.
