Born April 15, 1991, John “JDub” Walters was raised as an Air Force “brat,” moving four times during his childhood before his family settled in Camden, Delaware near Dover Air Force Base. He began playing sports in middle school and became a three-sport athlete in high school, competing in football, wrestling and lacrosse. Wrestling quickly became his strongest sport, as he became a four-time Delaware state placer (finishing as high as third) and earned AAU All-American honors with Team Delaware in 2009.

Walters attended WVU Tech as an Athletic Coaching Education major and graduated with honors with a 3.57 GPA. Competing from 2010–2014 across multiple weight classes, he earned several tournament titles, conference honors and multiple national qualifications. His senior season was a standout, highlighted by a 26–8 record, a USCAA Conference Championship, a Builders Invitational title and qualification for the NAIA National Tournament. He was also recognized twice as an NWCA All-Academic Scholar Athlete.

After college, Walters earned a master’s degree in Sport Administration from Delaware State University. He currently serves in the United States Air Force Reserve with the 512th Memorial Affairs Squadron (MAS) at Dover Air Force Base, working as a Fitness Assessment Specialist.
