Men's Basketball
Ronald Beatty, a resident of Charleston, WV graduated from Stonewall
Jackson High School in 1983. As a guard, Beatty helped lead his
team to three high school state tournaments including winning the
state tournament in 1982.
As a Golden Bear, Beatty played for two championship teams, in
1986 Tournament Champions and in 1988 Conference and Tournament
Champions. Ron claimed a spot on the all-tournament team
and first team all-conference while at WV Tech. Beatty’s efforts from
long range, shooting 53 percent, led him to the top of the West
Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s three-point shooting
chart and amongst the top ten in the country. As a senior, Beatty
was the leading scorer for the Golden Bears averaging 23.0 points
per game as well as five rebounds, four assists, and two steals per
game.
After graduating with a Bachelor’s in teaching, Beatty continued
his basketball ways by way of coaching. His coaching career which
began in the 90’s included a girls AAU basketball team that played
their way to the National Championship game all three years under
his helm. Ron coached at Portsmouth High School in Ohio as an
assistant coach from 1990-1996. Beatty returned to West Virginia
to continue his career as a teacher and a coach. Before returning
to WV Tech as an assistant coach under Bob Williams in 2003-2005,
Beatty gained many more years as a coach at Capital High School,
DuPont Middle School and St. Albans High School.
Beatty decided to take a brief period off from coaching to focus on
watching his children play college and high school basketball. He
has been a teacher at Kanawha County Schools for the past 17 years
and is coaching at Capital High School.
