    James Lockhart Jr. came to Tech after a very successful high school career at Parkersburg. While there, he lettered 3 years in football, basketball and track and earned several awards while at Parkersburg including: Student-Athlete of the year, was selected to play in the North-South Football game his senior year, was named as an All-State selection in football, and also won a State Football Championship.
Lockhart continued his successful football career at West Virginia Tech in 1951. As a Golden Bear he was a 4 year offensive starter as a center and a 2 year defensive starter at linebacker compiling a 19-15 record while earning All-WVIAC Honors.
In his professional career, James got his start as a district manager with Asbestos & Insulating Co. in Marietta, OH. He later moved to Philadelphia, PA where he served as the Contract Department Supervisor at Owens Corning Corporation before returning to West Virginia as the Contract Manager for A&I Co. in Charleston. James then served as the District Manager for Choice Insulating Co. in Charleston before beginning his own business - West Virginia Insulating Co. - that he owned and successfully operated for 15 years before selling the company to a larger competitor. Lockhart eventually retired after 51 years in contracting.
James and his wife Emma Taylor have four children, James Lockhart III, Gregory Lockhart, stepdaughter, Vicki Souza, and stepson Mark Elkins.
