Rodney Mayes attended Tech from 2003-2005. In his time as a Golden Bear, he earned a number of accolades, including Second Team All-Conference in his junior year, BB&T Player of the Week (4-time), First Team All-Conference, First Team Daktronics All-Region All-American, Second Team NABC All-Region, the Sparky Adams Heart and Hustle Award, WVIAC Academic Scholar Athlete of the Year and the WVU Tech dean’s list.

Rodney attended Warren County High School in Warrenton, North Carolina from 1997-2001, where he was a three-sport athlete and Athlete of the Year in 2001. There, he averaged 24 ppg and 12 rpg as a senior, earned First Team All-Conference and All-State accolades, was named Conference Player of the Year and led his team to a regular season and conference championship.

Before WVU Tech, Rodney attended North Central Missouri College where he played basketball for two seasons (2001-2003). At NCMC, Rodney was a Juco Region 16 All-Star and First Team All-Region player averaging 20 ppg and 11 rpg.
After graduation, Rodney played professional basketball for eight years in Europe and spent four years assisting in player development for top division 1 teams (Switzerland, Portugal, Slovakia and Argentina). He participated in FIBA AMERICAS with the Argentina team competing against Brazil and Mexico. He also spent one season in Tunisia, Africa.

Rodney retired from playing in 2013 when he started coaching college basketball with the University Of West Georgia, where he is an assistant men’s basketball coach.
