A Missouri native, Marty Wiesler grew up in the Greater St. Louis area before moving to Paw Paw, West Virginia. He attended Paw Paw High School from 2000–2002 and competed in every sport and event the school offered. On the mound, Wiesler put together one of the top pitching seasons in the state as a senior, leading West Virginia in strikeouts per inning at an average of two strikeouts per inning and posting the state’s lowest ERA at 0.71. His senior year also included a 26-strikeout performance in a single game.

Wiesler joined WVU Tech in the fall of 2002 and concluded his Golden Bear career in the spring of 2007. He was initially used as a closer during his first two seasons before transitioning into a starting role for his final two years, where he also served as a team captain. His senior season stands among the most impressive pitching campaigns in program history. Wiesler finished No. 1 in the nation in innings pitched per game (8.3) and ranked fifth in opposing batting average, seventh in hits allowed per game and 29th in ERA. He threw seven complete games that season alone.

During his career, Wiesler recorded two collegiate no-hitters, including one in 2006 against UVA Wise and another during his senior season against Marshall University. The no-hitter against Marshall earned him Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors. He also totaled multiple shutouts and multiple one-hit and two-hit outings throughout his collegiate tenure.

Following WVU Tech, Wiesler played two seasons of professional baseball as a reliever, posting a 6–3 record and making 49 appearances.

Wiesler currently works for the energy company NiSource and resides in Athens, Ohio with his wife, Cortney Wiesler, a WVU Tech alumna and former Golden Bear soccer standout. Cortney currently serves as the Associate Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Ohio University.
