John Grossi

Mr. John Grossi was a four year letter winner as a quarterback at West Virginia Tech where he helped compile an impressive 27-7-2 record in the Blue and Gold.

After graduating from Tech in 1953, Grossi went on to serve two years in the U.S. Army before accepting a teaching position at Weir High School where he was appointed head football and basketball coach. In 1970, John was promoted to Assistant Principal at Weir and was again promoted two years later to Principal. Grossi held that post for 13 years before later accepting the same position at the John D. Rockefeller IV Vocational School. In 1989, Grossi retired from Hancock County Schools and became a student advisor at Belmont Technical College in Ohio for 10 years.

Since 1999, John has continued to serve the public as a consumer advocate for the Consumer Protection Division of the West Virginia Attorney General’s Office.

Throughout his professional career, Grossi has been an active professional, serving as a member of the Hancock Board of Education, President of County, State and National Principal groups and has also been an active member of the approved chapter of football and basketball officials. John has also been active in his community, serving as Vice-President of the WV/Ohio District of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America & Weironian Lodge and is also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3734, Fourth Degree. He is also a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

John and his wife, Irene Yacos Grossi (deceased) have been married for over 56 years and have five very successful children: John V. Grossi, Tanya Musick, Timothy P. Grossi, Teresa Grossi and Valentina Bigalke.
