Sandy Sturgill Huddleston attended Glen Rogers High School in Wyoming County and Stoco High School in Raleigh County before moving to Fayette County, where she graduated from Montgomery High School in 1962. She earned her first diploma from West Virginia Tech in 1964-an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science. While on campus, she served as President of the Future Business Leaders of America, belonged to Phi Mu Gamma Sorority, and was elected “Miss Golden Bear” homecoming queen in the fall of 1963. Also during that year, she was chosen to be a member of the WV Tech cheerleading squad which ultimately won the “Best Cheerleading” trophy during the annual WVIAC Basketball Tournament. Immediately after graduation, Sandy began her 37-year employment with Montgomery National Bank, now United Bank, where she worked her way up through various positions to President of its Fayette County Offices.

In 1985, Sandy earned a Bachelor of Arts Board of Regents Degree from West Virginia Tech and then went on to earn her Master of Science Degree in Industrial Relations from the West Virginia Graduate College in 1996.

Over the years, Mrs. Huddleston has been an avid supporter of her alma mater. She was a member of Tech’s Board of Advisors and served on numerous fund-raising committees, including the Golden Bear Athletic Club and the Neal D. Baisi Athletic Center Renovation Project. She chaired two athletic scholarship drives for former banking associates. She, her sister Pat, and her brother Bob established the Sturgill-Reed Athletic Scholarship in memory of their parents. In 2001, Mrs. Huddleston accepted the position of Executive Director of Tech Foundation, Inc. and the Tech Alumni Association after previously serving as a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Sandy had also served as Vice President of the Tech Alumni Association from 1989-1991 and then as its President from 1991-1993. In 1990 she was chosen the Alumnus of the Year by Tech’s Community and Technical College, and in 1999 she was the recipient of the Tech Alumni Association’s Distinguished Service Award. After officially retiring in 2005, Sandy obtained her real estate license and became a realtor with her daughter and son-in-law in the family-owned business, Burgess Real Estate.

Mrs. Huddleston is a director of the Upper Kanawha Valley Economic Development Corporation and is a member of the UKV Chamber of Commerce, where she was chosen Citizen of the Year in 2000. She and her husband Roger currently reside in Montgomery. They have two children, Holly and Hayden, and three grandchildren, Cody, Abagail, and Bailea, and two step grandsons, Vincent and Wyatt.
