Scott Neal attended WVU Tech from 1983 to 1987 earning his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and playing football all four years.  Neal was the starting quarterback his junior and senior years.

His junior year (‘85), Scott threw for 1,411 yards and set the Tech single season passing record. The Golden Bears secured a 2nd place finish in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Tech’s highest finish since 1959.

Neal led the Golden Bears to another 2nd place finish his senior year (‘86) and passed for nearly 2,500 yards in his career with 27 touchdowns.  He was selected to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics 1986 Division 1 Academic All-American Football Team as Quarterback for those achievements.  He was also selected as the 1986 winner of the Orndorff Award which was given to a student-athlete who demonstrated character and leadership skills in both athletics and academics.

Prior to coming to Tech, Neal attended Courtland High School in Spotsylvania County, Virginia where he was a three-sport varsity letterman in football, track, and baseball.  He was the starting quarterback for the Cougars his junior (‘81) and senior (‘82) years, culminating in winning the 1982 AA State Football Championship.

After graduating from Tech in the spring of 1987, Neal worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia for over 21 years before moving to the Marine Corps Systems Command in Quantico, Virginia in 2009.  He is currently the Lead Systems Engineer for Ground Based Air Defense in the Program Executive Officer, Land Systems.

Through the years, Neal has continued his involvement in football and has been fortunate enough to be an assistant football coach at both Courtland High School and Massaponax High School.

Neal coached his sons in football and baseball as they were growing up, and currently coaches his daughter in Challenger Baseball, where he is the founder and vice president of Spotsylvania County Little League’s Challenger Division since 2006.  Challenger Baseball is a division of little league for special needs children and adults and provides an athletic environment structured to their abilities.  During this time, Neal was a board member of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, which was instrumental in raising funds and building Sunshine Ballpark in Fredericksburg Virginia where the Challenger Division plays today.

Neal has been married to his high school sweetheart, Pamela Perreault Neal, for almost 40 years and has four adult children:  Alan (37), Justin (34), Jacob (29), and Ally (20).  He also has five awesome grandsons: Nolan (8), Braden (6), Ryan (4), Holden (3), and Dean (1).

In his spare time, Scott loves deer hunting and fishing with his family.
